Four people were killed and up to 17 injured Wednesday when a big rig and a sport utility vehicle collided on California 86, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.

Eric Pena said the SUV, which was carrying several passengers, turned into the truck’s path and was struck by the truck. The SUV then hit another car, authorities said.

None of the people in the SUV were wearing seat belts.

The victims’ identities weren’t immediately available, Pena said.
