A Regal Choice, a 12-1 longshot and one of four horses saddled by trainer Paul Jones, won the $1,367,650 Los Alamitos Million Futurity Friday night when Corona For Me, the 2-year-old who crossed the wire first, was disqualified for interference approaching the wire.

Hawkish, the even-money favorite, broke poorly and finished ninth in his bid to become the first horse to win the Los Alamitos Bonanza -- a $1 million bonus for sweeping the Kindergarten, Ed Burke Memorial and Los Alamitos Million.

A Regal Choice, a California-bred son of First Down Dash, won for the fourth time in nine starts. The time for the 400 yards was 19.52 seconds. Cash For Kas was third.

This wasn’t the first stakes victory on the card for Jones and Luna.

Earlier, they had teamed with 14-1 longshot Ocean Cartel, who upset 3-2 favorite Babe On The Fly, to win the $25,000 Los Alamitos Million Consolation Stakes, a race for horses who participated in the Million Trials on Nov. 28, but weren’t among the 10 fastest qualifiers.
