“Peter Pan” doesn’t come out until next week, but it’s already in the running for an Oscar.

The live-action version of the famous story about the boy who didn’t want to grow up was named Friday as one of seven films being considered for the Academy Award for best visual effects of 2003. The other six: “The Hulk,” “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” and “X2.”

The visual-effects award nominating committee will screen 15-minute clip reels from each of the seven films on Jan. 21. Three then will be announced Jan. 27 as the official Oscar nominees.
