Colorado State quarterback Bradlee Van Pelt threw hard again Sunday, a sign that his broken throwing hand might be healed enough for him to play in the San Francisco Bowl against Boston College on Dec. 31.

“I’m getting close. Every day I’m getting closer and closer,” Van Pelt said Sunday. “Sometimes it’s a little uncomfortable throwing a ball, but it’s on track.”

Van Pelt broke a bone in his right hand during the Rams’ 24-23 victory Nov. 22 over Nevada Las Vegas.

He had surgery the following week.

Notre Dame’s new five-year television contract with NBC will not play a significant role in the school’s decision whether to keep its football program independent, Athletic Director Kevin White told Associated Press.

The contract with NBC is worth a reported $9 million a year through 2010.

The Irish struggled to a 5-7 record this season and did not qualify for a bowl game.
