Michael Leighton made 20 saves for his second shutout in three games, and Chicago defeated Detroit, 3-0, Sunday night in front of 21,122, the Blackhawks’ second sellout this season.

“Our team played great in front of me,” Leighton said. “I just made the saves I had to. This was the easiest game I played all year.”

Nathan Dempsey, Tuomo Ruutu and Deron Quint scored to help the Blackhawks win for only the third time in 23 games.

“It’s the Detroit Red Wings, and we seem to get cranked up for them and St. Louis because they’re in our division,” Dempsey said. “We get excited about it. You can tell from the quality of the hockey.”

The Red Wings lead the NHL with 126 goals, but have scored only four in their last four games. They’re 1-2-1 and have been shut out twice during that span.

Ottawa 5, Atlanta 2 -- Marian Hossa scored twice to help lift the host Senators.

Hossa was awarded his second goal without taking a shot on a power play in the final minute.

Atlanta forward Ilya Kovalchuk threw his stick and knocked the puck from Hossa on an empty-net breakaway.

Calgary 2, Edmonton 1 -- Jarome Iginla had a goal and an assist at Edmonton, Canada, Miikka Kiprusoff made 20 saves, and the Flames improved to 4-1 against the Oilers this season.

Mike York scored late for the Oilers, who have only one victory in their last six games.
