Mormon choir, Amsterdam orchestra will play in O.C.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam will highlight the 2003-04 season sponsored by the Philharmonic Society of Orange County.

The Salt Lake City-based chorus will perform March 26 and 27, 2004, at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

The Royal Concertgebouw, led by Herbert Blomstedt, will play there in February.

Among other visiting orchestras, the Los Angeles Philharmonic will reprise John Adams’ “The Dharma at Big Sur,” a co-commission between the Philharmonic and the Philharmonic Society, in March 2004, after its October premiere during the gala opening concerts for Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

The Kronos Quartet will team up with the Pacific Chorale in October to perform Terry Riley’s “Sun Rings,” which premiered at the University of Iowa in October 2002.

Both the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Kronos Quartet programs will be part of the 2003-04 Eclectic Orange Festival.

Other festival concerts -- as well as the “World Stages” series, co-sponsored by the Irvine Barclay Theatre- -- have yet to be announced.
