A wild street brawl in Sun Valley involving seven people left one homeless man dead and the six other people with a variety of bruises, lacerations and broken bones, police said Thursday.

The incident in the 8300 block of San Fernando Road erupted about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when the homeless man asked an employee of a car repair shop for a dollar, a Los Angeles Police Department homicide detective said.

When he didn’t get the money, the man “took a swing at one of the workers and the fighting started,” said Det. Mike Coffey of LAPD’s North Hollywood Division.

The one-on-one fight quickly grew into a mini-rumble.

“One of the workers came to help his buddy, then the two transients with the decedent joined in and then two more workers jumped in,” Coffey said.

Everyone was injured, Coffey said. The homeless man, 49, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was taken to a hospital where he died.

Although everyone involved has been interviewed, Coffey said that no arrests had been made and that police are awaiting an autopsy report that may positively determine the cause of death.
