Man Arrested in Alleged Rape, Torture of Woman

A man who allegedly raped and tortured a female acquaintance while holding her captive in a tent for several days has been arrested, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.
William Eugene Williams, 39, was arrested after the alleged victim escaped from the wooded area where she said she was being held against her will. She flagged down a vehicle and was driven to a shopping center in Prunedale, where she contacted authorities.
Williams was arrested Monday night, authorities said.
