The lowdown: Nothing much happened, unless you like sacks and punts. The quarter ended 3-3, the result of a 40-yard field goal by the Raiders’ Sebastian Janikowski and a 31-yarder by the Buccaneers’ Martin Gramatica.
Big play: Buccaneer defensive end Simeon Rice sacked Raider quarterback Rich Gannon at the Buccaneer 16 on third down, stopping Raider momentum and forcing a field goal.
Unanswered question: Could Charles Woodson and Tory James, Raider cornerbacks playing with plates in their right legs, stand up for an entire game? Woodson limped noticeably from the start.
Did you notice?Referee Bill Carollo, with a week to practice his coin flip lines, had the wrong home team but corrected it immediately. Then the crew either failed to react or failed to see a kickoff non-fumble by Tampa Bay’s Aaron Stecker. That forced an unnecessary challenge by Buccaneer Coach Jon Gruden to get the play reversed.
