Luis Gonzalez led the Arizona Diamondbacks to their 12th consecutive win with two home runs and five runs batted in, including a three-run shot in the 12th inning that lifted them to an 8-7 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night at Denver.

Arizona’s streak is a franchise record and the longest in the majors this season.

Matt Kata had a club record-tying five hits, the last an RBI double in the 12th that put Arizona ahead, 5-4. He also homered.

Pinch-hitter Chris Stynes hit a three-run homer with two out in the Colorado 12th.

With one out in the Arizona 12th, David Dellucci walked, stole second and scored on Kata’s double past diving first baseman Todd Helton. Carlos Baerga singled and, with two out, Gonzalez hit his 17th homer.

San Francisco 5, St. Louis 1 -- Jason Schmidt pitched his third consecutive complete game, holding the Cardinals to seven hits at St. Louis.

Schmidt (8-3) blanked the Cardinals until Jim Edmonds homered to lead off the ninth. That ended Schmidt’s streak of 26 innings without an earned run, and cost him his fourth shutout. Schmidt leads the majors with a 2.14 ERA and five complete games.

Rookie Dan Haren (0-1), a second-round draft pick from Pepperdine in 2001, was called up earlier Monday from triple-A Memphis to take the place of struggling ace Matt Morris, who will skip a turn in the rotation and attempt to correct some mechanical flaws in his delivery. Haren lasted six innings and gave up four runs -- two earned -- and seven hits.

Philadelphia 4, Chicago 3 -- Jim Thome’s two-run homer in the seventh inning at Philadelphia led the Phillies to their sixth straight win.

The Phillies won for the 11th time in 13 games to close within 5 1/2 games of first-place Atlanta in the National League East. Philadelphia was 10 games behind the Braves on June 18.

Florida 8, Atlanta 1 -- Mark Redman pitched a five-hitter and the Marlins roughed up Greg Maddux at Miami.

Ivan Rodriguez hit a three-run homer in the first inning. Of the 72 runs Maddux has given up this year, 27 have come in the first inning.

New York 3, Montreal 1 -- Steve Trachsel pitched seven strong innings and Ty Wigginton hit a two-run double at New York to help the Mets end a five-game losing streak.
