Very berry

How about a margarita made from strawberries, crushed mint and two primo tequilas? Or a fresh watermelon margarita? Or raspberry? Or a deep purple blackberry margarita? Sonora Cafe uses fresh fruit, a homemade margarita mix and the same blend of Cuervo Gold and 1800. (Strawberry mint, raspberry or blackberry margarita, $12; watermelon, $9.50.)

Sonora Cafe, 180 S. La Brea Ave., L.A., (323) 857-1800.

Colorful

If you’re in a blue mood, or the mood for a blue cocktail, try La Cabana’s Cabana Blue: Cuervo Tradicional, Blue Curacao, Cointreau and the house margarita mix, served over ice. A specialty margarita of a different hue, made from 1800, Cointreau and margarita mix, is topped with red strawberry puree. (Cabana Blue, $6.50; margarita topped with puree, $6.)

La Cabana, 738 Rose Ave., Venice, (310) 392-6161.

In season

La Golondrina makes unusual margaritas from whatever fruits are in season. Right now it’s pouring kiwi, papaya, blueberry, raspberry, coconut, melon and strawberry versions. In August and September, it will be making the refreshing prickly pear margarita. (Special fruit margaritas, $7.95.)
