Sony opens Mexico office

Spurred by the success of the Oscar-nominated “The Crime of Father Amaro,” Sony Pictures Entertainment has launched a local language production office in Mexico City named Columbia Pictures Producciones Mexico, S.A. Gabriel Ripstein, formerly of the Mexican production company Altavista Films and its distribution company, Nuvision, has been named director of creative affairs in the new office. Sony will continue to invest in, acquire and co-produce local product in the region through the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group in Mexico City. Sony already had established production offices in Hong Kong, China, Spain, Brazil and the United Kingdom.
