No Pet Peeves Is Retired After 20th Victory

Share

No Pet Peeves, one of the more popular performers at 870 yards, has been retired.

The 10-year-old gelded son of Sir Alibi went out a winner for owner Mimi Wells and trainer Dan Francisco.

Favored against $2,000 claimers in Friday night’s second race, No Pet Peeves looked beaten at the head of the short stretch but used a powerful late surge to overtake Amender and win for the 20th time in 69 starts. A five-time stakes winner at Los Alamitos, he earned $208,197.

“My kids would tell me, ‘Let him win his 20th race and then retire him,’ ” Wells said. “He’s done that, so now he gets to go home to my ranch.”
