The Santa Ana Police Department’s gang unit is investigating the separate shooting deaths of two teenagers over the weekend.

Police declined to say whether the two incidents were related.

The first occurred at 9:18 p.m. Saturday in the 2100 block of Alona Street. Police arrived to find Michael Ruiz lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene, said Police Sgt. Brian Sheldon.

In the second shooting, police responded to a call on Bristol Street at 12:02 a.m. Sunday. They found Angel Giles, 18, in a car at 2000 W. 12th St. He too was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second shooting also left another person shot in the leg. That victim, who was not identified, was in stable condition Sunday at UCI Medical Center in Orange, Sheldon said.
