Hearing for Thompkins Is Rescheduled

A pre-preliminary hearing for former Rialto Eisenhower football coach Glenn Thompkins, scheduled for Monday, has been rescheduled for Aug. 18 in San Bernardino County Courthouse in Fontana.

Thompkins, 27, has pleaded not guilty to 10 counts of statutory rape, three counts of unlawful sexual penetration, and one count of dissuading a witness -- in this case the 17-year-old female victim who was a student at Eisenhower.

He could receive up to 11 years 8 months in prison, and some counts require registration as a sex offender.

Golfer Sukjin-Lee Wuesthoff of Toms River, N.J., is among the favorites in the AJGA McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls’ National Championship beginning today at DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, Del. The finals are Thursday.

Wuesthoff is coming off a 1-up victory over defending champion In-Bee Park of Eustis, Fla., Saturday at the U.S. Junior Championship in Fairfield, Conn.

Esther Choe of La Quinta, who lost in the quarterfinal round of match play at the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, will also compete this week along with Jane Park of Oak Valley and Amie Cochran of Torrance, who each lost in the third round last week.

The AJGA Boys’ Junior Championships begin today at Westin Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla.

Alex Chavez had a two-out, RBI-single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Los Angeles Fairfax High a 4-3 victory over Inglewood Morningside in the championship game of the RBI Summer League tournament at Dodger Stadium on Sunday.
