Magnitude 3.2 Earthquake Strikes
From Times Staff Reports
An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 struck early Saturday at San Clemente Island, authorities reported.
Officials from the U.S. Geological Survey said the temblor hit at 6:32 a.m. and was centered on the southeast tip of the island. The quake was not an aftershock, they said.
The uninhabited island is about 55 miles south of Long Beach and 68 miles west of San Diego. When it is not being used for gunnery practice by the Navy, the island is popular with scuba divers and fishermen.
