Car Kills Woman, 80, on Rossmoor Sidewalk
An 80-year-old woman was struck and killed Thursday afternoon by a car that drove onto a sidewalk in Rossmoor, authorities said.
The victim was identified as Peggy Ferguson of Los Alamitos.
After Ferguson was hit, the driver then hit another car while trying to flee the first incident at Tigertail and St. Cloud drives, in the unincorporated area near Seal Beach, California Highway Patrol Officer Katrina Lundgren said.
The suspect and the second motorist, also a woman, were injured and taken to Los Alamitos Hospital.
Witnesses told officers that the suspect, whose name was not released, was driving erratically just before Ferguson was struck, Lundgren said.
She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and felony vehicular manslaughter, Lundgren said. Neither her injuries nor the other motorist’s are considered life-threatening, officials said.
