Man in Shooting Case Dies in Custody
A man accused of shooting a police dog and attempting to murder two police officers has died in custody, authorities said Wednesday.
John Albert Majchen, 51, who had been held in Fresno County Jail in lieu of $2.5-million bail since his arrest, was hospitalized June 5 because of a medical condition, said Sheriff’s Capt. Jose Flores, jail commander.
Majchen’s lawyer, Jim Lambe of the county public defender’s office, said his client had suffered from a debilitating disease.
Majchen had been set to go to trial June 30.
