Response to Scandal: Just Switch Churches
Re “Scandal Turns Church Into a House Divided,” June 17:
As with the scandal ongoing in the Roman Catholic Church, the Westminster church’s painful struggle isn’t about faith -- or, better said, shouldn’t be about faith. Men and women in the ministry aren’t anything more than fallible human beings. Our faith as Christians can’t be faith in a church or in pastors and ministers. Eventually, we can only be disappointed by men.
None of this excuses the horrible behavior of the men supposedly leading the Westminster church. I can only speak for myself, but if the church I worship in degraded so disastrously and so quickly, I wouldn’t have any problem in waking up next Sunday morning and finding another church in which to nurture my soul. After all, I’m not worshiping the church leadership -- I’m worshiping Jesus.
