Aftershock of ’99 Quake Rattles Mojave Desert

A moderate, magnitude 4.6 aftershock of the 1999 Hector Mine earthquake rumbled through a sparsely populated area of the Mojave Desert at 11:28 a.m. Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The aftershock was centered at the south end of the original Hector Mine rupture zone, a Geological Survey scientist said.
