Chino Hills Ayala Athletic Director Steve Martin announced the resignation of football Coach Lou Randall on Tuesday.

When contacted Tuesday night, Randall said nothing is official but admitted he is in the hunt for a vacant job near his home. Martin confirmed that school is Riverside J.W. North.

“I kind of guess you could say I did [resign],” Randall said. “I did announce to the kids [on Tuesday] that I have another job opportunity. But I didn’t tell them I’d accepted the job. Nothing is official.”

Randall, who teaches physical education, said North is 10 minutes from his house in Moreno Valley. He is expected to replace Steve Hagerty, who left to take over the program at Riverside Poly after reportedly being fired.

“I can’t comment on that right now,” said Jim McNamara, North’s athletic director. “We are looking for a new coach, but nothing is official.”

Randall guided the Bulldogs to the Southern Section quarterfinals in each of his four years, winning two Sierra League championships. His record at Ayala was 29-15-3. The Bulldogs finished 9-3 last season, losing, 48-16, in the Division II quarterfinals to Newhall Hart.

John Foster and Clint Wilson, water polo players at Long Beach Wilson, have signed with Long Beach State.

Foster had 53 goals and Wilson had 50 goals this season for the Bruins (31-0), who won their third Southern Section title in the last four years.
