An ankle injury couldn’t stop Cheryl Ford from helping No. 6 Louisiana Tech win its 25th in a row on Wednesday night at Tulsa, Okla.
Ford turned her ankle midway through the first half of the Lady Techsters’ 80-55 victory over Boise State in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference tournament, but returned after getting it taped.
“It didn’t bother me that bad,” Ford said. “You just have to shake it off. It bothered me with the tape on, but you just have to push through it.”
Ford had 18 points and nine rebounds in only 19 minutes. Trina Frierson led Louisiana Tech (27-2) with 19 points.
The top-seeded Lady Techsters jumped to an 18-2 lead in the opening 5:16. Boise State (10-19) did not score a field goal in the first 7 1/2 minutes, finally ending the drought when Cariann Ramirez made a baseline jump shot.
No. 5 Texas 87, Kansas 56 -- Stacy Stephens had 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Longhorns (23-5) past the Jayhawks (11-18) in the Big 12 Conference tournament at Dallas. It was Texas’ 11th victory in a row.
No. 7 Kansas State 77, Baylor 60 -- Laurie Koehn scored 22 points, including six of 12 shots from three-point range, as the Wildcats (28-3) cruised past the Bears (20-10) in a Big 12 quarterfinal at Dallas.
No. 8 Texas Tech 75, Oklahoma State 52 -- Jia Perkins scored 20 points as the Red Raiders (25-4) used a 24-2 second-half spurt to pull away from the Cowboys (8-20) and advance to the Big 12 semifinals at Dallas.
