Crow’s Nest Marina in Newport Bay was closed to all swimming and diving Thursday because of a sewage spill, health officials said.

The spill, which occurred when a grease interceptor overflowed at a nearby restaurant, was reported at 7:15 a.m., said Monica Mazur, supervising environmental health specialist for Orange County’s environmental health division. The restaurant and a Newport Beach utilities crew contained the spill, about 30 gallons, to a 500-foot area.

Mazur said the water will be tested continuously until it is deemed safe for swimming.
