A 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg Thursday afternoon as he sat on a bus bench near James Monroe High School in North Hills, police said.

The boy was sitting with a friend on the bench near the intersection of Nordhoff Street and Haskell Avenue about 1:15 p.m. when a car with two occupants drove by and one of them started shooting, police said.

“The victim ran off in fear for his life, heard gunshots and realized he was shot in the leg,” said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Lucy Diaz. The wound wasn’t life-threatening, she said.
