Officials Say Shooting Death Was Self-Defense
A Woodland Hills man arrested last weekend in connection with the fatal shooting of his longtime friend and business partner fired in self-defense, authorities said Friday.
David Matthew Leif, 27, was arrested Nov. 1 on suspicion of murder. But authorities this week ruled that the shooting of Leif’s 39-year-old friend was a justifiable homicide, LAPD Det. Rick Swanston said.
Leif fired three blasts from a shotgun. Officials found that he feared for his safety after his friend, enraged and intoxicated, tried to knock down the door of his condo, Swanston said.
