WHEN UCLA HAS THE BALL

With tailback Maurice Drew losing three fumbles in the last two games, one that led to a Washington State touchdown and two inside the opponents’ 22-yard line, look for Tyler Ebell, who gained 105 yards in 12 carries against the Cougars last week, to carry more of the load. Drew Olson replaces Matt Moore at quarterback, so the Bruins probably will throw fewer bombs and more high-percentage passes. Oregon has given up 20 touchdown passes this season. Junior Craig Bragg, who leads UCLA with 55 receptions for 849 yards and four touchdowns, caught nine passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns against Oregon last season.

WHEN OREGON HAS THE BALL

Sophomore Kellen Clemens, who has completed 118 of 209 passes for 1,729 yards and 10 touchdowns, is the starting quarterback, but backup Jason Fife, who has completed 63 of 118 passes for 856 yards and six touchdowns, gets plenty of playing time. Clemens started last week against California, struggled, and was replaced by Fife. Clemens then came off the bench to lead the Ducks to two fourth-quarter scores and a 21-17 victory. Fife is the more effective runner, with 230 yards in 41 carries. Oregon has two dangerous receivers in former Long Beach Poly standout Samie Parker (52 catches, 784 yards, four touchdowns) and Demetrius Williams (43 catches, 845 yards, seven touchdowns).

KEYS TO UCLA VICTORY

Don’t turn the ball over: Had UCLA not lost four fumbles and thrown three interceptions last week, the Bruins might have upset Washington State. They have to hold onto the ball against Oregon.

An efficient passing game: The Bruins haven’t had much success throwing long into double coverage. Olson needs to complete a high percentage of short- and medium-range passes to keep the chains moving.

Limit Oregon’s options: Bruin defensive linemen love rushing the passer, but they may have to pull back on the throttle to cope with the Ducks’ occasional option plays.
