Los Angeles Police detectives sought the public’s help Monday in the investigations of two unrelated shootings in the San Fernando Valley that left three people dead.

The bodies of two men who had been shot to death were found shortly before noon Sunday in a Mercury Villager minivan in the 10500 block of Burnet Avenue in Mission Hills, according to detectives.

The men, one 24, the other 31, were Valley residents. Their names were withheld pending family notification, said Officer Charlotte Broughton, an LAPD spokeswoman.

The other shooting, which police believe was gang-related, occurred about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the 14500 block of Lyle Street in Sylmar.

The victim, Timothy Soto, 17, was taken to a local hospital, where he died Monday morning.

The assailant walked up to Soto, spoke to him briefly and shot him, Broughton said. He left the scene in a black, full-size vehicle.
