Bryant Prosecution Team Grows

Prosecutors preparing for Laker guard Kobe Bryant’s sexual assault trial have added a fourth district attorney to their team.
Dana Easter, a former nurse who specializes in sex crimes, will join Eagle County Dist. Atty. Mark Hurlbert and assistants Gregg Crittenden and Ingrid Bakke on a part-time basis. Easter, 48, has worked in the Jefferson County, Colo., district attorney’s office for about 15 years.
Bryant, 25, is accused of raping a 19-year-old woman June 30 at an Edwards, Colo., resort. He says they had consensual sex. No trial date has been set, but motion hearings are scheduled to begin Dec. 19 in Eagle County court.
A Denver television station reported Tuesday that prosecutors have asked that Bryant be tested for HIV. Colorado law requires anyone who must stand trial for a crime involving sexual penetration to be tested for HIV.
