Fiancee of Green Is Arrested

The fiancee of Cleveland Brown running back William Green was arrested Wednesday night on charges she stabbed him in the back. Green sustained a puncture wound under his left shoulder blade during a fight at his suburban Westlake, Ohio, home, police said.

Asia Gray, who earlier in the day made an emergency call to police saying Green had cut himself, was arrested on suspicion of felonious assault and domestic violence. Gray, 22, who has two children with Green, is being held in city jail pending an arraignment in Rocky River Municipal Court. No bond has been set.

Green, who is under suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse program, told police earlier in the day that he was injured when he fell down stairs.

Michael Vick of the Atlanta Falcons had a setback in his attempt to return to the lineup this weekend.

A teammate stepped on the quarterback’s right ankle in a walk-through.

Vick, out since fracturing his right leg in an exhibition game Aug. 16, was unable to participate in team drills during the two-hour afternoon practice.

Carolina Panther safety Jarrod Cooper was suspended by the NFL for four games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

The punishment stems from Cooper’s arrest in September on charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance, speeding and driving with a revoked license.

The NFL Players’ Assn. is expected to challenge the league’s right to retest samples for evidence of the previously undetectable steroid THG.

A union source said that under the collective bargaining agreement, the union must first agree to it.
