Charles Frederick returned a punt 86 yards for a touchdown and later caught two touchdown passes to lead Washington to a 38-17 victory over No. 22 Oregon State in a Pacific 10 Conference game Saturday night.

Washington, which improved to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference, ended a two-game losing streak, a stretch that included an embarrassing home loss to Nevada a week earlier and a 46-16 loss at UCLA. The Huskies play host to USC next Saturday.

Oregon State (5-2, 2-1) suffered its first conference loss and saw its four-game winning streak come to an end.

After Kenny James gave Washington a 14-0 lead with a two-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, Oregon State responded.

The Beavers got a five-yard touchdown run by Derek Anderson and later a 39-yard field goal by Kirk Yliniemi to make it 14-10.

But Washington quarterback Cody Pickett threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Frederick about five minutes into the third quarter and then a one-yarder to Ben Bandel a little over a minute later to put the Huskies back in control, 28-10.

Frederick put the game out of reach when he and Pickett hooked up for an 87-yard touchdown play with 7:32 left for a 38-10 lead.
