Good Chance for Clement

Trainer Christophe Clement, who won stakes with the mare England’s Legend, will try to win the race named in her honor today at Belmont Park.

Clement, who will start Dynever in the Breeders’ Cup Classic Saturday at Santa Anita, entered both Love n’ Kiss S. and Heritiere in the $65,000 race at one mile on the turf. However, since Edgar Prado is listed to be aboard both mares, only one will start.

Love n’ Kiss S. certainly has a love for the Belmont Park grass. The 5-year-old Kris S. mare has won six of eight over the course and was second in another. She will break from the inside post.

Heritiere, an Australian-bred mare owned by Alec and Ghislaine Head, won three of eight in her native land but is only one for seven since coming to the United States.

A winner at Monmouth Park two races back, Heritiere would be making her first appearance at Belmont Park.

The other main contenders in the England’s Legend are Pieria, who has won three of four on the Belmont Park turf for trainer Bill Mott; With Patience, who was second to Pieria on Oct. 4; Coney Kitty, who has won three times at the track; and Vespers, a nose loser to Coney Kitty on Sept. 11.

Race of the day: Daunting, who has won the Claiming Crown Jewel and two other races since being claimed for $16,000 by trainer Mark Glatt on March 22, is among seven older horses set to go 1 1/16 miles in the seventh at Santa Anita. The $58,000 optional claimer also drew McDab, Arbitrate, U S S Tinosa, Bonus Pay Day, Prized Gem and Labamta Babe.

One for the road: Lott looked good defeating $50,000 claimers in his return for trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. and can handle the jump into allowance company in the seventh at Belmont Park.

Exotically speaking: A pick four singling Papier Mache in the fifth, using Any For Love, Reefs Sis and Alozaina in the sixth, Labamta Babe, Daunting, McDab and Prized Gem in the seventh and Clear As Daylight, Gold Garters and Streakednorth in the eighth.
