Righteous Brother the Choice in a Field of 10

Righteous Brother, owner of the fastest qualifying time in the trials on Oct. 17, is the likely favorite in the $864,850 Golden State Futurity tonight.

A Grade 1 for 2-year-olds at 400 yards, the Futurity has a field of 10 with all carrying 124 pounds.

Trained by Connie Hall for Pazazz Quarterhorses Ltd., Righteous Brother has won three of six and hasn’t been worse than third. In his only other appearance in a Grade 1, he was third behind Metallic Lion and Dividends Declared in the Governor’s Cup Futurity on June 21.

Leading trainer Paul Jones will send out four qualifiers in the Futurity, topped by Brookstone Bay, who won his trial by 1 1/2 lengths. The improving son of First Down Dash has won both of his starts at Los Alamitos. Well I Never, Sapranos Play Boy and Summertime Fly are the three other horses Jones will saddle.
