No Decision Made on Rutherford

Pittsburgh Coach Walt Harris will wait for more information before deciding whether to take action against starting quarterback Rod Rutherford, who is accused of kicking out a car window outside a Pittsburgh nightclub.

No charges have been filed, but Pittsburgh police are investigating. Several female acquaintances of Rutherford’s were in the vehicle.

“We are in the process of gathering information so we are sure we know exactly what happened,” Harris said Tuesday. “Until we’re satisfied we know everything, I’m not going to do anything.”

The 10th-ranked Panthers open Saturday against Kent State. Harris gave no indication when a decision on Rutherford’s status for the game would be made.

Miami right tackle Carlos Joseph has an inflamed tendon in his right ankle, made worse by playing in the opener, and probably will not play Saturday night against No. 21 Florida.

The 6-foot-6, 307-pound senior from Miami was wearing a hard cast and using crutches Tuesday. He also was scheduled to have an MRI exam.

Arkansas received word from the NCAA that All-American offensive tackle Shawn Andrews has been cleared to play against Tulsa in the season opener on Saturday. Andrews unknowingly committed an infraction by taking contents from an unauthorized gift bag in May at the Playboy All-American awards in Phoenix.

Kansas State running back Darren Sproles said he will start against McNeese State on Saturday, apparently having recovered from the undisclosed leg injury that forced him out of the seventh-ranked Wildcats’ game last weekend.
