One Pick in Six Is Easy

Share

Many playing Del Mar’s $252,901 pick six carry-over today will consider it a pick five.

Dirty Diana, the prohibitive favorite in the $100,000 Generous Portion Stakes, will be a single on a lot of tickets.

Owned by a partnership and trained by Bob Baffert, the 2-year-old Flying Continental filly is back in a race restricted to California-breds after proving no match for another state bred, unbeaten Tizdubai, in the Sorrento Stakes last month.

In her two races with Cal-breds, Dirty Diana is unbeaten. She broke her maiden in her career debut for former owner-trainer Roger Stein by seven lengths on April 24 at Hollywood Park, then, in her second start for her current connections, she won the CTBA Stakes at Del Mar by 8 1/2 lengths.

Since losing by four lengths to Tizdubai as the 11-10 favorite on Aug. 9, Dirty Diana has worked a half in 47 1/5 and will break from Post 7 in the field of nine.

Other races in the pick six include three maiden events and two optional claimers on the grass.

Race of the day: Logician, who has run in the San Felipe Stakes, Santa Anita Derby and Swaps Stakes, will make his turf debut for trainer Craig Dollase in today’s seventh at Del Mar.

The $58,000 optional claimer at one mile attracted eight others. Corey Nakatani, who was aboard for Logician’s lone victory on Jan. 12 at Santa Anita, has the mount and the son of Tabasco Cat will break from the rail. It’s not a strong field. The nine remaining entrants -- after scratches -- have a total of four turf wins.

One for the road: I’mbethtoo looked good breaking her maiden first time out at Pleasanton on June 25 for trainer Steve Specht. The 2-year-old Wild Gold filly could be quickest early in today’s second at Bay Meadows, a $20,000 claimer at 5 1/2 furlongs. She also gets in light with apprentice Emmanuel Mendez riding.

Exotically speaking: Daily doubles from Ask Not and Honest Answer in the second to Saint Buddy in the third.
