Resident Hospitalized in a Coma After Fight
A Santa Paula man remained in a coma Sunday night after being beaten Saturday afternoon near Blanchard School, authorities said.
Richard Valverde, 36, was involved in a fight with several people about 4:15 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Peck Road, said Police Chief Robert Gonzales. Officers arrived on the scene and found Valverde unconscious.
People who were with Valverde refused to cooperate with police, so little information was known about the cause of the fight, Gonzales said.
Valverde, who had suffered major head injuries in a Labor Day car crash, was being treated at Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura.
