Look Out, Nostradamus
Somewhere in this edition, Times writers will evaluate the day’s college football games. Readers would be well-served to dismiss all predictions.
After all, last week you described the previous time UCLA and Illinois met: A 6-3 Bruin victory in the 1991 John Hancock Bowl. To which you prognosticated: “Maybe one of the schools will score a touchdown this time.” Wrong.
Then you described the first Michigan-Notre Dame meeting, in 1887, when the Wolverines shut out the Irish. You boldly predict of this year’s game “probably, Notre Dame will kick a field goal.” Shame.
