Buena Park police shot and wounded a would-be kidnapper Friday night, but an accomplice got away, authorities said.

The wounded man’s name was not immediately available, police said.

The incident occurred about 8 p.m. when police interrupted the apparent kidnapping of an employee at the House of Imports in the 6800 block of Manchester Boulevard.

Two men had threatened the employee after work as he walked to his car and attempted to take him to an ATM to withdraw money, said Buena Park police Sgt. Jim Banks.

Alerted by a passerby, officers confronted the men and fired a shot that hit one in the leg.

Both men then fled on foot, though the wounded man was arrested by officers about half a mile away.

He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where his condition was unknown, Banks said.

A perimeter was set up as officers searched for the second man.

The employee, Banks said, suffered minor facial injuries.
