Record Favors Kedington

Share

At tracks not named Santa Anita, Kedington has won twice in 14 starts.

Put the 5-year-old Seattle Proud gelding to work in Arcadia, however, and he fares a whole lot better.

Owned by Kassie Van Doren and trained by Rafael Becerra, Kedington will try for his sixth win in his 14th start at Santa Anita when he takes on seven others in today’s seventh, a $52,000 optional claimer for Cal breds at one mile.

Bred by John Toffan and Trudy McCaffery, Kedington, who was claimed by his current connections for $16,000 last April 3, has won twice in 11 races for Becerra, but only twice during that period has he been worse than third.

The horse Kedington has to fear most is Quillimanque. A 6-year-old, Chilean-bred gelding owned by B M W Z Stable and trainer John Dolan, Quillimanque has won two of three at the meet and was second in his lone defeat.

The field is completed by Juan, Antaeus, Seattlespectacular, Fabulous West, Chester’s Choice and Blue Blood Boot.

Race of the day: Ship Alert, a 4-year-old Gold Alert colt, will aim for his third win in a row in today’s ninth, a $34,500 optional claimer at 1 1/16 miles, at Oaklawn Park. Owned by Wexler Stables and trained by Mike Campbell, Ship Alert won his first for his current connections March 17 after being claimed for $25,000 on Feb. 11.

One for the road: My Barbara Jane ran a winning race in her bow for trainer Martin Wolfson last week and is stepped up into open maiden company for her second start in today’s seventh at Gulfstream Park. With the bump in class, My Barbara Jane will be a nice price under jockey Julio Garcia.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Siphonette in the fourth, Kolob in the fifth and all in the sixth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 4/205. Money: Previous day/meet total: $16.40/$1,086. Total money bet: $1,202.
