Oswalt Too Tough for Brewers, 2-0

Roy Oswalt pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10 to lead the Houston Astros to a 2-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night at Houston.

Oswalt (2-0) retired 17 of the final 18 batters and threw only 94 pitches. Only one Brewer baserunner, Scott Podsednik in the fourth inning, advanced past first base. He reached third after stealing two bases.

Atlanta 5, Florida 4 -- At Atlanta, Eli Marrero and Chipper Jones each hit two-run homers, Julio Franco drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single in a three-run sixth inning and the Braves ended the Marlins’ seven-game winning streak.

The Braves also ended the Marlins’ club-record scoreless string at 31 innings when Marrero hit a two-run homer in the second inning off Darren Oliver.

Chicago 11, Cincinnati 10 -- Sammy Sosa homered to tie the score in the ninth inning, and Moises Alou immediately followed with a game-winning homer. In all, there were eight homers on a day the wind was blowing out at Wrigley Field. Sosa’s home run was his 512th with the Cubs, tying Ernie Banks’ club record.

Pittsburgh 7, New York 6 -- Jack Wilson had a tiebreaking RBI single in a seven-run eighth inning, and the Pirates -- limited to one hit over the first seven innings by Tom Glavine -- won at Shea Stadium.

St. Louis 13, Colorado 5 -- Reggie Sanders had his second two-homer game of the season and drove in four runs to lead the Cardinals at St. Louis. The Cardinals had opened the season 1-6 at Busch Stadium for the first time since 1973.

Philadelphia 4, Montreal 2 -- Jim Thome and Pat Burrell homered to lead the Phillies in their first night game at Citizens Bank Park. Eric Milton pitched six strong innings for his first win with the Phillies.

Arizona 5, San Diego 0 -- Randy Johnson pitched a two-hitter at San Diego for his first win of the season and helped himself with a two-run double. Johnson, who had eight strikeouts and one walk in recording his 36th shutout, allowed only one runner to reach second base and retired the final 16 batters.
