KCAL’s Stratton Suspended

Susan Stratton, the longtime executive producer of Laker telecasts for KCAL Channel 9, has been suspended by station management.

Stratton could not be reached for comment Wednesday night, but announcers Paul Sunderland and Stu Lantz said they were informed of the suspension.

Sunderland said he was led to believe that the suspension was only for Friday night’s playoff game at Houston.

Lantz and Sunderland said they were not told the reason for the suspension.

Management was upset with Stratton for comments she made last week to The Times regarding coverage of the Lakers’ final regular-season game, a double-overtime victory at Portland in which Kobe Bryant made the winning shot with no time remaining.

Station spokesman Mike Nelson said, “In keeping with company policies, we do not comment on personnel matters.”

Stratton has been with Channel 9 since 1977.
