Macaw Owner Convicted of Felony Animal Cruelty

A Costa Mesa man whose macaw suffered a broken beak and leg and contusions was convicted Tuesday of felony animal cruelty and abuse of an animal, a prosecutor said.
Anthony James Ellis, 53, could be imprisoned three years when he is sentenced June 11.
Ellis slammed the parrot against his boat March 2, 2003, Deputy Dist. Atty. Nicole Nicholson said.
