Guevara started the scoring in the 36th minute when he sent a penalty kick inside the right post. The kick came after the Galaxy’s Tyrone Marshall shoved Wolyniec as the two chased after a loose ball.

The Galaxy (9-6-6, 33 points) put together several good combinations to start the second half but were unable to capitalize with a quality chance.

The MetroStars scored in the 61st minute when Gaven got behind the defense and beat goalkeeper Kevin Hartman.

Wolyniec completed the scoring three minutes later.

The Galaxy played the last 22 minutes a man short after Chris Albright was given a red card for a hard retaliation against defender Chris Leitch.
