Funeral Held for Official Who Faced Charges
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Funeral services were held Friday for a 37-year-old San Diego councilman who died while facing federal corruption charges.
Charles L. Lewis III died Sunday after being taken to a hospital. An autopsy determined the cause was gastrointestinal bleeding related to cirrhosis.
On Friday, more than 1,000 friends and community members packed a local church for a tribute to the councilman’s life.
“Well done my good, faithful, loving, committed son,” said Lewis’ mother, Rosemary White-Pope.
