Chefs get bored too with the same thing night after night. So some set aside a day to try something different, or maybe drum up business on a slow weeknight.

Angeli Caffe

Every Thursday night, chef Evan Kleiman takes her guests on a culinary adventure. Next Thursday, for example, it’s to Southern India. And while there is no set number of courses, Kleiman never lets anyone leave hungry.

This 8-month-old spot just debuted “Hot Mix Nights” on Wednesdays during happy hour. Chef John Jackson created a menu of yummy adult bar food, including pumpkin soup and a crab and Gorgonzola tart.

Jiraffe

Every Monday night, this stylish bi-level restaurant is transformed into a classic bistro. The menu is three courses and changes each week. Recent highlights have included ratatouille-stuffed roasted artichokes and coq au vin.

Lucques

Sunday supper has made Suzanne Goin’s cozy Cal-French eatery a hot ticket to round out the weekend. The three-course menu is driven by what’s fabulous at the market that week. A recent menu featured braised duck leg with Madeira, fresh bay, medjool dates and potato puree.

Falcon

SIN is the name of the new Monday gathering at this hip destination. SIN stands for Service Industry Night, but anyone is welcome to indulge in the bargain-priced Vox dirty martinis and creative pizzas from the wood-burning oven from 6 to

Campanile

Every Thursday, the kitchen at the Cal-Med classic turns out about a dozen different grilled cheese sandwiches. We’re partial to the classic, starring hot, nutty Gruyere. Come hungry, but not starving: Long waits for tables are common.
