It’s time to dust off my crystal ball and take a look at what the new year has in store for high school sports. The images are becoming clear:

Receiver DeSean Jackson of Long Beach Poly will give up football after becoming a first-round selection in baseball’s June draft.

Scalpers will get $20 a ticket for the Jan. 21 City Section boys’ basketball showdown between Westchester and Fairfax at Westchester.

Football Coach Bruce Rollinson of Santa Ana Mater Dei will place an ad in the help-wanted section reminding students that his school has produced two Heisman Trophy winners and “welcomes anyone who wants to join the club.”

Matt Dominguez of Chatsworth will finally begin to shave, meaning his record-breaking 68 runs batted in as a freshman were just a sneak peek at what he’ll accomplish once he makes it through puberty.

Any Southern Section Division I baseball coach who wins a first-round playoff game will receive an immediate contract extension because that’s how tough it’s going to be to advance in a division with no weak playoff teams.

Among the best pitching duos this spring will be Casey Haerther and Kyle Thompson from West Hills Chaminade; Jason Novak and Robert Stock from Agoura; Matt Nevarez and Steve Pujol from San Fernando; Matt Wade and Alex Curry from Villa Park.

La Canada will finish 25-0 during the regular season in boys’ basketball.
