Update -- The Avengers will probably have their toughest test of the early season in their third consecutive game against a Western Division opponent. The Avengers are hoping that victories at Arizona and Las Vegas have prepared them for the SaberCats, a perennial Arena Football League contender. Avenger quarterback Tony Graziani has passed for 13 touchdowns without an interception. San Jose’s defense is led by two-time AFL defensive player of the year Clevan Thomas, who intercepted a league record 13 passes last season. SaberCat quarterback Mark Grieb will try to get the ball to offensive specialist James Hundon and receivers James Roe and Barry Wagner. The Avengers will be without two starting defensive specialists -- Damen Wheeler is out with a hamstring injury and Cornelius Coe was indicted on federal drug charges Wednesday.
