Now that Mike Weir has wrapped up a second consecutive Nissan Open title, he can start devoting time to really important things, such as deciding what kind of food will be served at the Champions Dinner at the Masters.

As the defending Masters champion, it is up to Weir to determine what is on the menu.

“I’ve been kicking around a few ideas,” Weir told the Miami Herald a while back. “My mom cooks some awesome Italian food. My wife is Mexican, and I love that. But Italian food and Mexican food is probably not a good combination. I’ll probably have to pick one or the other.”

Weir says one thing is certain: The beer will be Canadian.

Fitness wins out: Before the start of the Nissan Open, Weir, 5 feet 9 and 155 pounds, was asked whether seeing John Daly and Craig Stadler win on the PGA and Champions tours the previous weekend made him rethink his training regimen.

“I was real happy for John,” Weir said, “but no, I’m not going to change anything.”

No discriminating: Daly, who finished fourth Sunday, let it be known just how much he appreciated his fans after winning at Torrey Pines the previous Sunday.

“The drunk ones, the sober ones -- I love them all,” he said.

And you are ... ? St. Joseph’s, at 24-0 one of the nation’s two undefeated men’s college basketball teams, still seems to struggle to get respect.

After St. Joseph’s defeated Fordham in New York last week, the Philadelphia Daily News reported that Coach Phil Martelli was asked by a reporter whether the Hawks would be a No. 1-seeded team in the NCAA tournament if they were undefeated going into Selection Sunday.

“You’re kidding, right?” Martelli said.

Real estate bargain: Bob Knight’s old home in Bloomington, Ind., was put up for sale on EBay last month, according to the Indianapolis Star. The house features a 564-square-foot study, skylights and a nearly 300-square-foot master bathroom equipped with “jetted tub” and steam room.

The asking price? Southern Californians will be amazed that the current owner, according to the Star, is hoping to get nearly $400,000.

Looking back: It was on this date in 1985 that Knight threw a chair across the court. The incident occurred five minutes into a game against Purdue after Knight had been hit with a technical for complaining about foul calls. He threw the chair while Purdue was shooting the technical. Knight was hit with a second technical and was ejected from the game.
