Kings Roll Past SuperSonics

Peja Stojakovic usually needs only a few inches to get off his shots. The Seattle SuperSonics gave him considerably more -- with predictable results.

Stojakovic made six three-point baskets and scored 24 points, and Bobby Jackson had 21 points and seven assists in the Kings’ 130-99 victory Sunday night at Sacramento.

The Kings had the highest-scoring performance in the NBA this season and their biggest margin of victory over Seattle, surpassing a 29-point win last season. The Kings had a season-high 37 assists and shot a season-best 58.4%.

The combination of the Kings’ fluid passing with the SuperSonics’ static defense produced a very uneven game.

Even Stojakovic and Jackson seemed a bit surprised by the sheer number of open shots they got.

“When you get up that much on a lot of teams, they’re most definitely going to quit,” Jackson said.

“That’s our responsibility, though. It’s our job to make sure they don’t feel like they can come back.”

Stojakovic, the NBA’s second-leading scorer, finished one shy of his career high for three-pointers despite sitting out the final 10 minutes as the Kings improved the NBA’s best record to 23-8, including 17-2 at home.

New Jersey 95, New York 85 -- The two former Nets now playing for the Knicks were keeping things close, Dikembe Mutombo blocking shot after shot and Keith Van Horn making baskets.

“It was time to stop playing around,” Jason Kidd said after scoring 19 of his season-high 35 points in the fourth quarter and engineering a 17-2 run that led the Nets past the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

After Kenyon Martin made a free throw to break a 70-70 tie, Kidd began the decisive run with a tough-angle jumper from the right corner. He followed with a 17-foot jumper, then found Kerry Kittles for a three-point basket that made the score 78-70.

Van Horn scored before Kidd reeled off five consecutive assists -- the last coming on a 50-foot pass to Martin ahead of the field for a dunk that gave the Nets an 87-72 lead.

Kidd also had 13 assists and seven rebounds. He went to the free throw line 13 times -- six more than the Knicks -- and made 12.

Milwaukee 100, Washington 94 -- For the sixth time this season, the Bucks are one game over .500. Two games over .500? That would be new territory.

Michael Redd scored 18 of his 27 points in the second half, and Tim Thomas had 23 points for the visiting Bucks, who have been at .500 following 11 of their 33 games but are yet to get to two above.

Kwame Brown scored a career-high 23 points and had 11 rebounds for the Wizards, who have lost six of their last seven.

Toronto 83, Phoenix 73 -- The Raptors erased the memory of a poor game against New Orleans with a strong performance against the Suns at Toronto.

Vince Carter scored 23 points and Donyell Marshall had 15 points and 15 rebounds.

Rose had 16 points and five assists for the Raptors, who were routed by the Hornets on Friday.

The Raptors have won three of four and improved to 9-7 since acquiring Rose and Marshall from Chicago in late November.
