Leon Powe scored eight of his 16 points in the final 2:58, helping California hold on for a 74-62 victory over Arizona State on Saturday night at Tempe, Ariz.

Marquise Kately had 17 points for the Bears (6-7, 2-2 Pac-10), who ended a two-game losing streak while sending the Sun Devils (6-6, 0-3) to their fourth straight loss.

Ike Diogu had 31 points -- in double figures for a national-best 44th consecutive game -- and 13 rebounds. But Steve Moore was the only other Sun Devil in double figures, with 10.

The game was Coach Ben Braun’s 800th overall and 232nd in eight seasons at California, moving him past Lou Campanelli for second in the school’s all-time coaching ranks.

The Bears played without Powe, their leading scorer and rebounder, in a 20-point loss at Arizona on Thursday, and center Amit Tamir had his worst game, with only five points and three rebounds. This time he had eight points and six rebounds -- the same as Kately, offsetting Diogu inside.

The Bears led by 20 with 13:18 left to play and had a 57-42 lead with 8:50 remaining. But the Sun Devils battled back, getting to within 60-51 on Diogu’s 10-foot turnaround with 5:15 left.

Then Powe, who rested a sore knee the previous game, made two layups and two free throws during a 56-second span, giving the Bears a 67-53 lead with 2:02 to go.

Oregon State 90, Oregon 81 -- The Beavers (7-6, 1-2) went on a 12-0 game-ending run at Corvallis in the 319th meeting between the two teams. The loss ended a nine-game rivalry winning streak for the Ducks (6-4, 1-2).

The victory came despite the spectacular performance of Oregon forward Luke Jackson, who had career highs with 39 points and 16 rebounds.
