Large Fields Order of Day

Share

Santa Anita is going retro today. The large fields bring back memories of days past and are a welcome relief from the six- and seven-horse fields to which players in California have grown accustomed.

A total of 87 horses were entered in the eight races and only one race, the second, had less than nine entrants.

This bonanza makes for some attractive betting contests, and the pick four is especially enticing. The last four races on the card drew 11, nine, 14 and 11 runners.

In the seventh, a $52,000 allowance at seven furlongs, Sun City Bradley will try for his third win in six starts against a field that includes Sum Trick and recent winners Valley’s Passion, Onebigbag and Royal Siphon.

Owned by a partnership and trained by Bruce Jackson after making his first four starts for trainer Chris O’Dell, Sun City Bradley finished second to Pohave in a fast race (1:08 1/5) for six furlongs on Jan. 4. Today’s race will be the first beyond six furlongs for Sun City Bradley, a 4-year-old American Day colt who will be ridden by David Flores.

Race of the day: Receivership, who has won three in a row and four of her last five, heads a field of six fillies and mares in Aqueduct’s seventh, a $47,000 optional claimer at six furlongs. Receivership, owned by a partnership that includes Sullivan Lane Stable and trained by Richard Dutrow Jr., will be ridden by apprentice Tim Thornton.

One for the road: No Issues steps up three levels in search of his fourth consecutive win in today’s sixth at Golden Gate Fields.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Vencedora Amiga in the fourth, Cyber Slew, Run Rebecca Run, Quick Nip, Potri Star and Stormica in the fifth and Steve’s Remark and Zoolu Nights in the sixth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/82. Money: Previous day/meet total: $17.60/$467.60. Total money bet: $448.
